These are basic terms that govern your use of the public Varysian website at varysian.com. They are not a substitute for the separate agreements or terms that apply to specific Varysian services — see Events, recruitment, consultation and partnerships below.

This is an operational baseline document. It may be refined as Varysian's activities and services develop.

About Varysian

Varysian is a specialist organisation working across the global weather, water and climate community. Where these terms refer to Varysian, we, us or our, they refer to Varysian.

Using the website

You may use the public parts of this website for lawful, professional or personal information purposes. Some parts of the website — for example the Varysian Network — require you to create an account and may be subject to additional rules and terms.

By using the website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the website.

Website content

Information on the public Varysian website is provided for general information about Varysian and the sector we work in. We take reasonable care to keep the content accurate but content may change or become out of date without notice. Nothing on this website is a substitute for specific professional advice or a contractual undertaking.

Where we describe services — such as recruitment, consulting, event delivery or Private Sector Consultation — those descriptions are not, by themselves, an offer or a contract. The scope, price and specific terms of any engagement are set out separately.

Varysian Network

Access to Varysian Network features may require an account. Membership, community participation, member-only content, intelligence functionality, recruitment tools, technology directory features and any commercial partnership arrangements may be subject to additional terms and rules that apply to Network members and, where relevant, to partner organisations. Where we make such additional terms available, they take precedence for the specific area they cover.

Publications, interviews and resources

Publications and interviews produced by Varysian, and the wider material on this website, remain subject to applicable intellectual-property rights held by Varysian or by the relevant contributor. You may share links to public Varysian content, but you must not reproduce, redistribute or otherwise commercially exploit it without permission.

Where the website links to external publications or resources (for example, publications hosted on Simplebooklet or interviews hosted on YouTube), your use of that external content is subject to that provider's own terms.

Events, recruitment, consultation and partnerships

Making an enquiry through the website, or reading about a Varysian service, does not by itself create a commercial engagement between you and Varysian. Separate written agreements or terms will apply to:

• Varysian events (delegate, sponsor, exhibitor and speaker arrangements)
• specialist recruitment engagements
• Private Sector Consultation and other advisory work
• partnership arrangements
• any other paid Varysian service.

Where such an agreement is in place, it takes precedence over these general website terms for the specific engagement.

Acceptable use

You must not use the website to:

• do anything unlawful, or that would facilitate unlawful activity by others
• attempt to interfere with, compromise or gain unauthorised access to the website, our systems, or any user's account
• misuse an account (for example by sharing credentials, using someone else's account, or automating access in a way that is inconsistent with normal use)
• systematically extract or scrape content in a way that infringes third-party rights or these terms
• upload or transmit material that infringes third-party rights or is otherwise unlawful, defamatory, harassing or abusive.

The website links to third-party websites and content that Varysian does not control. Availability, accuracy and behaviour of external sites is the responsibility of the site or service concerned. Links are provided for convenience; they do not imply endorsement.

Varysian operates from the United Kingdom. These terms and any dispute arising from your use of the public Varysian website will be governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where Varysian is established, and will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts there — except where mandatory local consumer-protection rules give you additional rights that cannot be waived by contract.

If you use the website from outside the United Kingdom, you are responsible for complying with any local laws that apply to you.
